Devour Campaign Post-Mortem:
At the time of writing, all of Devour’s orders have been shipped out. Odds are, if you’re reading this, you’ve already received your physical/digital rewards, or will in the next couple of days if you’re a US backer. For my generous international backers, I was quoted anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks. I’ll make sure to pay close attention to those order deliveries so I can have a more specific timetable for future campaigns.
To be completely honest, I was always nervous about the fulfillment process with Kickstarter campaigns. I’ve heard enough horror stories from creators and backers alike, where I approached my first campaign with caution. Fortunately, I had several friends in my corner walking me through various aspects of the Kickstarter process. So, shoutouts to Marcus Jimenez & Wells Thompson, especially for all their help with this first campaign!
Another aspect that I’ll share is some of the hard data behind Devour’s sales numbers.
Since this was my first Kickstarter campaign, I didn’t know what to expect, but I found it interesting that the digital tier was the best seller by a significant margin, with the main cover finishing in second. In hindsight, I’m grateful that digital was the best seller since it made the campaign easier to fulfill, but I’m curious if that’s a typical trend for Kickstarter projects.
What’s Next?
The next month or so will primarily be focused on fulfilling From Within’s Kickstarter campaign (expect more thoughts on that topic next month). I also have one more short comic dropping onto GlobalComix’s platform this Thursday (Halloween). I’ll keep it at that for now, but keep your eyes out for my cover reveal later today, along with the comic’s launch this Thursday!
On the Comic Book Yeti front, I’m on a break at the moment, but I’ll drop links to my two most recent interviews in case you missed them.
Current Projects:
Comics:
My 240-page martial arts revenge OGN and the main reason this newsletter wasn’t launched earlier in the month. From Within has been a massive undertaking for several years now and the graphic novel has been successfully funded through Kickstarter! Huge thanks to artist Renzo Podesta, colorist Bryan Valenza & letterer DC Hopkins for collaborating with me on this tome of a comic.
The Late pledge option is enabled, so check out the campaign link if you missed out on the original campaign. Late pledges will be available for the next two weeks at a minimum.
Chaser is a 6-page crime-horror comic about thinking you’ve hit rock bottom only to realize you haven’t scratched the surface. I used to tell people that this was the Vertigo comic I always wanted to write but would never have the chance to make… but that was when I didn’t realize Vertigo was coming back. As a longtime Vertigo fan, that’s a good problem to have, I suppose!
Shoutout to artist Heather Vaughan, letterer Lucas Gattoni, editor Claire Napier & designer Sonia Harris. Everyone brought their A-Game to this project and I’m beyond grateful to have worked with them on this.
Available now on GlobalComix’s site for free, check it out now if you haven’t already!
Desperate Times is a byproduct of a short comic concept being rejected for an anthology and me stubbornly deciding to make it anyway. It’s Sin City set inside of a video store. This project allowed me to draw on my real-life experience of working at a Blockbuster and my love of crime comics, especially the works of Ed Brubaker, Frank Miller & Brian Azarello.
It was a real treat to work with artist Ignacio Lazaro & letterer DC Hopkins on this story, and I’m thrilled it’s finally available for everyone to check out.

Comic Book Yeti:
I don’t have as much time to dedicate to interviews these days, but when I heard that Declan Shalvey was writing a Terminator series, I knew I had to try and make an interview happen. Fortunately, he was so gracious with his time and provided some excellent answers regarding his process, both as a writer & an artist. This is an easy contender for my favorite interview of the year, so check out the link if you missed out on the original post.
Another instance of me not having enough time for an interview but squeezing it into my schedule anyway, Eric Palicki’s Dream Catchers grabbed me from the cover alone. Shout out to Eric for sending me an advanced copy of the story, this is a wickedly entertaining comic you don’t want to miss out on. Check out the interview and consider supporting the Kickstarter Campaign today!
All things considered, October was jam-packed, so I’ll leave it at this for now. Have a happy Halloween, everyone!
